I was trying to write on this topic since last couple of days but because of my exams and busy schedule, time didn’t permit me to do so. Today is Sunday, so no office and as I have just finished up with exams, so no tension about my studies too (except getting result). So let me write on this now, here I go.

I have marked that since last couple of days Google has started showing Approx Search Volume & Approx Avg Search Volume in number (figures) in his Google External Keyword Tool in replacement to the shaded bar they were showing before. The update has taken place during the end of June or beginning of July 08. I am not aware about exact time, as I was quite busy those days with my exams and work schedule.

It has been decades that Google started its External Keyword suggestion tool, but most of SEO/SEM were not using it for their keyword research, either its for Organic SEO or Pay-Per-Click, as the tool was showing results in shaded bar and not in number, which doesn’t give the clear idea to SEO/SEM for choosing right keywords. Google atlast realized that showing search volume in figure will give a very clear idea to their Adwords customer for choosing right keywords, geographic location & planning their budget. So they have gone for it.

To give you an overview, I have just search “SEO India” keyword in Google Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool and I got under mentioned result (as in Image):

Let me try to describe each column to you in short.

Column 1 – Keywords: It shows you variation of keywords that are relevant to keyword you have queried in Tool.

Column 2 – Advertiser Competition: Google has updated only search volume in figure, but kept its advertising competition in shaded bar only, which I think should be next target of Google.

Column 3 – Approx Search Volume: June: It shows you the approximate search volume of that specific keyword in the previous month, which is June as it July running.

Column 4 – Approx Avg. Search Volume: It shows you the approximate average search volume of that specific keyword in the recent 12 months.

Column 5 – Match Type: It shows you option for adding keywords from that result directly into your Google Adwords Campaign, with the match option you choose from drop down menu.

No, that’s not it about the tool, there is something interesting I observed in Google Keyword Suggestion Tool while my search. I have analyzed that if you use this tool after logging it into your Google Adwords account and going into specific Group then it will show you different result, targeting that specific location you have targeted for that Adword group. Didn’t get it ?

Let me make it simple, If you are Gooogle Adwords customer and want to get keyword for your specific campaign, assuming you are targeting geographical location as Australia, then you should use this tool after getting logged in into your account. In the keyword tab of specific group, you will have option of keyword tool (as in screenshot)

Just click on it and search your keyword and you’ll find totally different result. It will show you number of search and competitors from that specific targeted location (Australia, as we assumed). To make it simpler to you, I have logged in into my adwords account and search for same keyword (SEO India) and got result as shown in following image. With the under pasted screenshot, you can see clear difference in both result.

So if you are searching for the keywords, targeting specific location in mind just log in to your Google Adwords account and search keywords from specific group and you’ll get more relevant results. For more information, Google has helping information page for it, click here to explore it.

I love the way Google is developing it loopholes, I hope they keep on updating thing as per time and customer demand.
