Sorry mates, since last couple of days, I remained quite busy with my MBA exams so was unable to update my blog. Still some exams are remaining but today I cannot stop my self on writing this article, as hobby cannot be suppressed for a longer time. Anyhow, let me get to point. I was just preparing a Web Analytics report for one of our client and that clicked me to write something on Web Analytics today for visitors on my blog. Why not to start with basics? As, I am unaware about the technical and functional compatibility of my blog visitors. Ok then let’s start with basics right here:

What is Web Analytics?

Web analytics is the studying of visitor’s online behavior on our website.

Why Web Analytics?

Web Analytics is used for different purpose by different business, so it depends on person to person and business to business. But in general, website Analytics is used for studying visitor’s online behaviour and improve website usability accordingly, for better return on investment (ROI) and visitor experience.

Benefits of web Analytics

  • Studying visitors online behaviour
  • Analyzing your data again KPI
  • Measuring and maximizing return on investment
  • Helping visitors to get what they want
  • Targeting better potential and right market
  • Planning future strategies to enhance revenue
  • And many more…

Now question that you’ll have in your mind is, how can you get the data of your visitors behaviour for web analytics? Isn’t it?

There are two main technological approaches to get the data. The first method, “logfile analysis” and another is “page tagging”.

The logfile is a file stored in the ftp of your website in which the web server records all its online transactions. You just need to download that file and convert it into statistical data with log file analyzer tool.

Whereas, page tagging is a facility provided by third party. It gives you a JavaScript code, which you need just need to put on each page of your website in order to notify a third-party server when a page is rendered by a web browser.

I know, this is making you feel bit technical (which can be done my specialist only) but it’s not so. Actually it’s not technical at all, all you just need to know is basic website fundas and common sense.

There are many log file analyzers available in market, one best amongst them which I use is ClickTrack. But if you are looking for easy way out i.e. Pag Tagging I once again forcefully, need to give you reference of Google. Google offers Google Analytics service free of cost, all you need to have is a website and email address to sing up. There are many other tools available in market but I use Google Analytics, which is one of the best, undoubtedly.

So want to learn how to use Google Analytics? Ummmm, I think it’s a enough web analytics dose for today, so let me close this post here!

I’ll continue in my next post about putting lights on how to use simplest Google Analytics tool to gather data about your website visitors.
