The PageRank is named after one of the co-founders of the Google Search Engine i.e. Larry Page. Google PageRank is widely known as PR. It is the most debating attribute in Internet & SEO World because of few misunderstands and myths. The aim behind Google introducing PageRank is calculating importance of that specific web page.
Google calculation was that if a website is getting link for one of its web page from another website would be due to something unique and important feature of that web page, and therefore should be treated as a vote for that page. Google counts this number of back links (vote) to judge the importance and relevance of that page and assigns PR accordingly out of 10 points.
Mind it, PageRank is always for a Webpage not for a Website. This is very important for each one to know.
Each link from a certain web page passes some PR value to the target page. The PR value passed by that page depends on the PR and number of outbound links of that page. It is universally agreed that a web page will only pass about 85% of its PR to pages it links to and divided by number of outbound links it has from that page (without no follow attribute).
The most important myth which is waving around now days in SEO Industry is that “PageRank plays as major role is SERPs Ranking”, this is a the biggest myth. PR only shows importance of that page according to Google logarithmic calculations. Whereas, Google consider more then 200 factors while displaying SERP ranking for certain keywords, no doubts that PageRank is one of the factors of it. But considering it as a major factor will be a biggest mistake.
